NCL and NCT Water Stopper

NCL and NCT Type PVC Water Stoppers

PVC Water Stoppers are essential, integral components in the overall structural perfection and strength in concrete construction used to prevent water leakage through construction joints. Among the most commonly used types are NCL (Non-Central Bulb Longitudinal) and NCT (Non-Central Bulb Transverse) water stoppers, each designed for their own specific joint orientations, condition and structural requirements.

The NCL Type PVC Water Stopper is a flat or “ribbed” profile that goes along the longitudinal direction of a construction joint. Unlike water stoppers with central ”bulbs”, NCL is designed for areas, places where movement (expansion or contraction) of the joint is minimal. The “ribbed” sides of the stopper provide massive anchorage within the concrete, ensuring that it stays in place during its pouring and curing. NCL water stoppers are exstensively used in basements, retaining walls, reservoirs, and tunnels, where watertight protection is required but large movements are not expected or experienced. Its durability, chemical resistance and composition, and its ability to withstand both positive and negative (high and low) water pressure make it an extremely economical and reliable choice.

The NCT Type PVC Water Stopper is also “without a central bulb”, but is placed transversely across construction joints. Its main function is to prevent the seepage of water from one side of the joint to the other, even under circumstantial hydrostatic pressure. Like NCL, it features “ribs” or “grooves” that further ensure its proper fixage with the surrounding concrete. NCT water stoppers are specifically used in constructions or dams, irrigation channels, water treatment plants, foundations, and other heavy-duty structures where water seal under water pressure is critical and immense.

In conclusion, both NCL and NCT PVC water stoppers are for ensuring the excellence, durability and integrity of the water-retaining properties of structures. Selection of the correct type—longitudinal or transverse—ensures that construction joints remain sealed effectively and increased structural integrity, preventing water leaks and its prolonging service life, therefore increasing the structural life of the concrete constructions.
