Kicker Type PVC Water Stopper
A Kicker Type PVC Water Stopper is a sealing strip specifically made of polyvinyl chloride (PVC), used to prevent water seepage through construction joints in concrete structures. Unlike expansion joint water stoppers that are fixed into the center of the concrete, the kicker type is placed at the base or edge (known as the kicker) of vertical concrete walls of the infrastructure. Its centered purpose is to ensure the prevention of water from making entrance the joint between its horizontal and vertical concrete pours, enabling a water seal.
During construction, the kicker type PVC water stopper is fitted into the junction where the flooring slab meets the wall. This is a sensitive point in any/all water-retaining or underground structures prone to water. Water can easily penetrate if not properly sealed and create disruptions or erode the condition of the structure/concrete. By embedding the water stopper at this pivotal point before pouring the wall concrete, a continuous shield is created, that resists leakes and ensures the improvement of its structural integrity.
The design of kicker type water stoppers usually includes “ribs” and “grooves” that provide a strong “grip” with the concrete. This extensively improves bonding and prevents displacement during vibration or pouring of the cement. They are manufactured from flexible, elastic yet durable PVC materials, which offer an excellent resistance and stamina to withstand various naturally occurring factors like: water pressure, corrosion, and most chemicals.
These water stoppers are extensively used in basements, water tanks, retaining walls, tunnels, swimming pools, and other under-ground or the requirement for water-retaining structures. Their advantages include impressively long service life, simple and easy handling, strong mechanical properties, and its magnificent ability to perform under both positive and negative, high and low water pressure and other situations
